Surgery
There are several different foot surgeries that may be recommended depending on the specific condition or injury that a patient is experiencing. It is important for patients to work closely with their doctor to determine the best course of treatment for their individual condition.
Surgical Procedures
Dr. Barksdale will evaluate your condition to determine the underlying cause and tailor a treatment plan to help you get relief and back on your feet. Here are a few of the most common types of foot surgeries:

This surgery is used to correct a bunion, which is a bony bump that forms at the base of the big toe. During a bunionectomy, the surgeon removes the bony bump and realigns the bones in the foot.
Plantar fasciitis is a common foot condition that causes pain in the heel and bottom of the foot. In severe cases, surgery may be necessary to remove the damaged tissue and relieve pain.
Hammertoe is a condition in which the toes curl downward, causing discomfort and difficulty wearing shoes. Surgery for hammertoe involves straightening the affected toes and realigning the joints.
The Achilles tendon is the largest tendon in the body and connects the calf muscle to the heel bone. Surgery may be necessary to repair a torn or ruptured Achilles tendon
Neuroma is a condition that occurs when a nerve in the foot becomes compressed, causing pain and discomfort. Surgery for neuroma involves removing the affected nerve.
Ankle fusion surgery may be recommended for patients with severe arthritis in the ankle joint. During the surgery, the bones in the ankle are fused together to provide stability and relieve pain.
Patients with severe arthritis in the toe joint may benefit from toe joint replacement surgery. During this procedure, the damaged joint is removed and replaced with an artificial joint.
Tarsal tunnel syndrome is a condition that occurs when the tibial nerve in the foot becomes compressed, causing pain and numbness. Tarsal tunnel release surgery involves releasing the compressed nerve.
